Best city or cities you have visited in the United States?

Travel Tips
What a great and fun question!!

I love Philadelphia, great restaurants, awesome history, very walkable, all four seasons, sassy people with real opinions, cool, lots of real city grit to it!

Honolulu, of course rocks, good restaurants, the great beaches, 1 hour flights to the other islands, would be a good place to live, but hard if your friends and family are back on the mainland, far away.

Charleston SC is so nice, the only thing in South Carolina that is even remotely nice if you ask me! Anyway, Charleston is charming with it's gorgeous old homes, great eating city, never found a bad meal there, charming inns! So unexpected in that state! Sorry other people in SC, you know it is true with your alternating billboards to "lets meet at my house on sunday---God", and "stripers and fireworks next exit". ughh

Washington DC is fun with all the monuents and free museums to visit, Alexandria Virginia right next door is fun and cute, historic, the metro in Washington makes everything so easy to get to, there is just an exciting energy in Washington.

Boston, love the history once again, love the sassy New England attitude and "wicked" cool accent. Great for people that love seafood too!

Of course San Francisco is cool and fun and very interesting, I love anyplace that lets people be who they are and isn't all full of hypocritical judgement (SC).

New Orleans, totally loved it before the storm, haven't been back, but will go, love the French Quarter, at first I thought it was just dirty and gross, then it took me about 5 minutes to decide how awesome it is, the whole city was beautiful with it's own great unique flavor and culture!

Cities I find a little dull--Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago is nice and fun although a little mild in temperment.

Enough already!

Cliche, but true - NYC!
I've lived all over the USA, exept the NE. With that in mind, the best in the USA:

#1 Seattle, WA
Phildelphia of course
St. Petersberg, Florida is a personal favorite.
But it depends on what you're looking for.

St. Pete is good for beaches, swimming and bars.
Killington, Vermont is good for snowboarding and bars
Boston, mA is cool for its aquarium and it's bars
Myrtle Beach, SC is cool if you're 21 or under and you like bars.
Washington, DC is fun to see just to say you've been there.
Most Pacific Coast cities.

I've lived in San Diego, Oakland, Monterey, and Longbeach. All are blessed with some of the best weather you'll find anywhere in the U.S. All are populated with friendly, casual people who make good neighbors. All have plenty to do: theater, sports, beach, camping, sight seeing, eating out, skiing, swimming, and on and on. Some of the best universities in the nation can be found along the Pacific Coast: UC Berkeley and Stanford head that list.

The only drawback, all these places are expensive to live in. The median price for a detached home in San Francisco is over $600,000 for example. La Jolla, a suburb of San Diego, has some of the most expensive homes in the world. The reason for these high costs is obvious...these are the best cities in the United States and most everyone wants to live there.
Lived in California since 1960 (moved from Ohio and stayed)
