Will I have to pay to park in philly city center?

Travel Info
I understand this is a larger city, but I was hoping someone could give me a good tip on places to park nearby attractions. We want to visit around the area, shopping, etc... Are the meters in the city off on saturdays or can anyone tell me of some residential neighborhoods where we could park near by stuff? I need some help!!!

Travel Tips
If you are lucky enough to find a meter parking spot, more power to you. Once you hit center city, there are parking garages every where and you pay a fixed price to park there for the day. It would help more if I knew where in Center City you would be. It might also be better to take public transportation. Personally, I live 20 minutes outside the city and I rarely NEVER drive into town.

Others
Public transport is easier if it's possible. You can park at a meter, which is a dollar an hour, if you can find a spot! They are usually limited to 2 hours, but it depends on the meter. Sundays are *usually* free, but good luck finding a spot on any given day. Sometimes you're lucky and you get one where you want right away, other times you drive around for 45 mins and still have to park very far from your destination.

Residential areas usually also have a 2-hour limit unless you have a permit that says you live in the area. If you're going to see historical sites like the Liberty Bell, there won't be any residential areas without meters very close by.

NOOOOO!!!!! parking in center city is the worst. if you decide to go out on sunday, most meters are free. my best thing to tell you is park somewhere far and take septa....hopefully, where you park is not a neighborhood where your car will get broken into.
I never bother trying to find a parking spot on the street. I live in the suburbs, and just plan on parking in a lot or garage, depending upon where I'm visiting. Usually there is a parking area within a block or two of anyplace.
its not easy to find parking...i think its free on saturday if you can find a meter spot though....there really arent any residential areas that have parking either because the buildings are extreamly close together and one on top of another so the amount of people to parking spaces is a bad ratio. Park in a garage or a lot, thats your best bet, there are a bunch of them right around 10th and chestnut near the convention center...you can find some that are like $8 for the entire day. And i would make sure that you plot out everywhere you want to go because not everything is real close to eachother, you may have to take a bus from one site to another.

Its not impossible to find street parking, your just gonna have to drive around in circles for a while everytime you want to go somewhere else...some places are worse than others too...like its not as bad around the colleges, but south st. is insaine. If your lucky you could wind up going on a day that its kinda dead and than there will be lots of spots :) Good luck! Have fun in our city! It really is a good time ;)

oh and the art museum has its own parking if you were interested in going there.
I drive around all the time and manage to find parking...its really not as bad as everyone makes it seam.
I agree with the others that SEPTA or a parking garage is your best bet. But if you have to park at a meter, bring quarters. They only accept quarters or a Smart Card.

For more info about parking in and around center city (as well as smart cards for meters) check out the Philadelphia Parking Authority website: http://www.philapark.org/homeflash.aspx...

Good luck
