Travel Info I have a 6 hr. layover in Philadelphia what is a quick way to get to and from the airport to Independance Hall Travel Tips If you want to take a taxi, it's a flat rate of $25 from the airport to Center City (and the same amount to go back, of course). If you want to go to the Independence Hall/Liberty Bell area, you can also take public transportation pretty easily. Take the R1 regional rail train from the airport (it's right outside of the baggage area) to 30th Street Station. From there, pick up the Market-Frankfort line (subway) eastbound to 5th Street. When you come out of the subway, the two blocks north of you is where Independence Visitor Center and the National Constitution Center are. And the two blocks to your south is where the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are (you have to start at the visitor center to do everything in the sequence now required for "security" reasons -- it's a post-9/11 thing). If you don't mind walking, you can also head down to South Street (about 7 blocks South of Market St) for eclectic shops, pubs, and restaurants. Also, there are a lot of nice restaurants in the Old City area (the area between 5th and Market, where you're getting off the train, and South St and the waterfront). Others taxi b/c independance mall is about 5 mins from i-95 and the airport is right on i-95 and the entire drive is about 15 mins w/o traffic City of brotherly love, myass. R1 SEPTA Airport train. Runs from Airport to Center city. From there you will find the Hall at 5th street, near Chestnut. There are Buses that run in town as well and the cabs of course. http://www.septa.org The only thing I would add to the previous writer is to just take the R1 to Market East (around 10th and Market) then walk down to 5th and Market. You are right near the Reading Terminal Market where you could get a bite to eat. A taxi would be your best bet. |
