Why is Philadephia considered a "sports pressure cooker"?

Travel Tips
Fans here are the most passionate and knowledgeable around. We won't accept a poor effort, even from our stars. Every move an athlete makes is scrutinized here. Take TO for example. Sure, he was a star in San Francisco, but when he came here, he was suddenly a nightly story on every news channel, not just ESPN. Our local media feeds the fans passion. They are not the cheerleaders that some local sports media tend to be.
Some players like Scott Rolen or Ricky Waters just don't understand what it is to be an athlete in Philly...they want out the first chance they get. We even were angry with Mike Schmidt When he put forth a sub-par performance.
We are far too often let down by our so called superstars, (McNabb, Forsberg, Abreu) that it brings a tremendous frustration. That's why, when a no name player has a good day, the entire city rallies behind them.

Others
A lot of professional sports in that city.
i think it's because of the eagles fans, but i'm not for sure
They are known for the high standard that they hold their teams and athletes up to, and come down really hard on you when you are not on point with your game

FYI - They did boo Santa Claus at an Eagles games many years ago
Philadelphia has the most loyal and passionate fans. It's very heartbreaking for us to see our teams get far in their respective sports, but never quite bring it home (superbowl, championships, etc). It's almost like we are out on the field, rink, etc. with them. Plus, there is always some drama going on with some of the players that it really take its toll on the city (T.O, A.I, etc.). Every time we have exceptional players they decide they want to disrupt the flow of the team. A sports pressure cooker is definitely a good way to describe Philadelphia.
