Condominium or apartment in Philadelphia? |
Travel Info Does any one knows where the ideal place for college students to live in philadelphia? Like the name of apartment or condominium. I am looking for something between $700-1500. Somewhere around center city or west philadelphia. Thank you. Travel Tips The upper end of your range will not put you in the "ghetto", as a previous answerer stated. Unlike NYC or DC, $1000-$1500 will get you a great apartment in a great part of the city. I lived in Philly for years (until just recently) and loved both of my places. Sounds like you are going to Penn or Drexel, but you may want to consider living a little outside that area. I don't know the names of a lot of apartment buildings (nevermind that many of the rentals in Philly are not developments, but individually owned brownstones or coverted houses), but let me direct you to areas that are diverse, fun and safe (as safe as you can be in any major city) Try: -University City: close to Penn & Drexel of course -Fairmount: great for young, urban, prof's. Near Art Museum and Ben Franklin Parkway. -East Falls: great area and right off Kelly and MLK drives. Close to regional rails and subway. Lots of buses. Look into the following places: School Lane House Apartments, Alden Park & Park Heights. -West Mt. Airy: also great area w/good trans. Try the Cliveden, Upsal Garden Apartments -Chestnut Hill: a little pricer, but also close to everything and very nice. Look into Chestnut Hill Village. This is on the complete opposite end of the city, so it might be out of your transportation range especially if you aren't driving. Also, consider renting a house. It may prove cheaper. Here is a website you can look into: http://www.move.com/homes/main.aspx?poe=... Zip codes for these areas I remember are: 19118 (Chestnut Hill), 19119 (West Mt. Airy), 19129 (Roxborough), 19127 (Manyunk), 19128 (East Falls) and 19144 (Northwest Germantown only) Good luck and enjoy Philly! Others thats the ghetto. look at a higher price for a better place. Around the art museam is nice I used to have a condo at 19th and Callowhill and I loved the neighborhood, you can go up to Soring Garden and catch the bus the will take you right into University city. $700-1500? You should be fine if you're looking for a 1-bedroom place. There's a lot of housing in University City and the surrounding areas, but there isn't too much to do around there. If you're going to be hitting a lot of house parties and stuff, then maybe look around there. It will be a lot cheaper there than ti will be on the other side of the Schukyll River. If you look around the Art Museum area and Fairmount (between the museum and Broad Street, and Spring Garden Street and Fairmount) you should be able to find a lot of places.
