How do i meet people in Philadelphia?

Travel Info
i just moved to Philly for work. having trouble meeting people. any ideas?

Travel Tips
I had the same problem when I moved to philly. Well, I found this group MeetinPhilly.org. (Go to meetin.org and click on Philly.) I am pretty shy and I felt instantly accepted. Great people, and there are events every night. Source(s): personal experience

Other Travel Tips
I've had a bit of trouble too, it's a tough place to meet people.
I think because until recently everyone who lived here was from here...which is why it seems like they all know each other. Also the city is so spread out, that unless you live in Center City...theres not much of a nucleus of people who are relative newcomers you can relate to. If you're not a "hang out at the bar" person...I'm not...it's tough. I'd say if you have special interests like running or tennis or outdoorsy stuff, find a group online and go participate. Email me through my profile information here if you want to...I'll be happy to answer any questions, etc.
all i know is philly isnt very spread apart its pretty congestied.
I have live here all my life, but the only way I have met many new interesting people is by joining some sort of group, like a bowling league or softball league, if you're not into sports, try some sort of book of the month club or take a recreational class at a local college
If you're interested in art there;s First Fridays - the first Friday of every month art galleries all over 2nd street & that area by Market are open until 9 pm - for free. Go look at some art, and while you're circulating you might see some of the same people. Strike up a conversation. Explain how you just moved to Philly. Ask for some other activities or ideas to meet people.

Or attend a show at the Tin Angel. It's more folky music, with an older crowd (read: over 21), but in my experience they are more willing to chat with you before and after shows. Once again pull the "I'm new here" line.

Also, becoming a regular at places help. Always visit the same coffee shop & start chatting & getting to know the coffee people. Get to know your local indie video store gals. Be aware of when zine or tattoo or furniture fests/conventions are happening so you can attend those and explain you just moved here, and are looking to meet people with the same interests.

It's a lot of leg work and putting yourself out there. But it worked for me. I moved to just south of Philly after college for about a year and I still keep in touch with a few people I met then.
Go to broad st. and look at the sights. You're bound to meet people
