Why are there so many mean people in Pennsylvania? And why so much Racism?

I live in PA and I don't think there are a lot of mean people. Most people I encounter are friendly.

I don't know, my friend. have you thought about moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan? 3 of the last five years it was named the best city to live in in America.
You might want to be more specific. It's a pretty big state you know, so we get all kinds. It's true that we have the Klan here, but not as many as farther south. PA still has a lot of forest so there are a few bunches in the less populated areas, especially in the northern parts. If you want culturally ingrained racism, you'll have to go farther south.

We have our share of religious ultra conservatives in certain areas, but mostly they keep to themselves and when they do interact, they aren't bad neighbors. There will always be a distance there unless you want to be part of them, in which case you have to lead a strict life. But they're distinctly in the minority. We aren't the only ones who have Creationists, and they got voted off the school board as soon as they tried to do something about it. Here again, you have to go farther south or even farther west.

We have our hicks too, but don't have too many problems with them. Again, go south. Friends of mine go to West Virginia to hunt deer, and there are plenty of tales of trucks with PA license plates being vandalized. In places, you could almost count on it as being one of the costs of a hunting trip. They've largely wised up, realizing that we bring money into their local economies.

All I can say is, it's a big state. It has a wide assortment of people. So would you be more specific as to why you needed to make that accusation?
Do you have any statistics to back up your claim?

I find Pennsylvania to be a very diverse state...urban, rural, and almost all ethnic groups represented.

One can see more liberal views in the Philly area, midwest mind sets in Pittsburgh, Yankee thriftiness in the Northeast, and religiously conservative people in the southern part of the state.

It makes for an interesting mix for sure. I am very proud to be a Pennsylvanian.

I don't think there are more mean people or racist people here than any where else. I live here and don't find your statement to be true, but maybe you have had a bad experience. So don't be fooled, there are nice people that aren't racist in Pennsylvania.
