WHAT DOES THE MAIN LINE MEAN WHEN REFERRING TO PA? |
Travel Info hELP ANWSER THIS AND STATE POSSIBLY WHAT TOWNS THAT IS Travel Tips The Main Line refers to communities northwest of Philadelphia. The Main Line comes from the Main Line Railroad that ran between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Communities that are on the main line include: Ardmore Bryn Mawr Berwyn Devon Haverford Malvern Merion Narberth Radnor Rosemont St. Davids Strafford Villanova Wayne Wynnewood There are many wealthy families that live on the Main Line, including music and sports celebrities. Others just outside of Philadelphia - Upper Merion area, off of the Schuykyl Expressway around Belmont Ave - pretty rich area Mainline is Philly and suburbs - refers to route 1 it's the ultra rich suburbs on the outskirts of phila. like Media,pa and king of prussia, Chester, conshohocken, Warminster, etc used 2 live in philly Of the prior responders only Philly_Romantic got it right! You could probably make a case for Upper Merion being part of the Main Line. Although Conshohocken is geographically close it's definitely not part of it. Media, Chester, and Warminster are no where close to the Main Line. The term The Main Line originally referred to a section of railway of the Pennsylvania Railroad (today it's Septa's R5 Line). Today it refers to a section of the immediate western suburbs of Philadelphia & the R5 line (aka the Paoli local) runs right through the middle of it.
