Philadelphia, like Rome, has a number of buildings that were built to showcase Philadelphia as a city of culture (Art Museum, Central Branch of the Free Library) or political power (City Hall), wealth (Girard Bank - now the Ritz Carlton) and commercial power (Wanamaker's Bldg) and even to control prisoners (Eastern State Penitentiary.)

You'll maybe want to think of Roman buildings that do something similar - showcase culture, manifest political might and power, control prisoners, demonstrate commercial prowess.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia are both significant Beaux Arts Buildings dedicated to culture in the City.

Also Philadelphia's 30th Street Station and the 30th Street Post Office (two separate buildings) are pretty significant buildings in the City. 30th Street Post Office was built by the government.

Also the Eastern State Penitentiary - it's hub and spoke design was considered very modern for penal institutions when it was constructed.
