Thinking of moving to Pennsylvania from Long Island.?

Travel Info
I am a mom with 2 school aged boys, 12 & 14. I am considering moving off of Long Island to Lancaster County, PA. As much as I love living here, and being in close proximity to NYC and all it has to offer (culturally ~ arts and theatre), owning a home for me is an impossibility. I would like to buy a home within the next year in an area that has a good school district and in a family-orientated community that has plenty to offer. I am not too familiar with the areas of PA. Can anyone offer insight into the communities within the following school districts: Donegal, Manheim Twp, Conestoga Valley, Warwick, Penn Manor? I want to find a well-rounded place to raise my children, better their quality of life (without experiencing too much culture shock).

Travel Tips
You may want to consider Philadelphia instead of Lancaster. You are moving out of a busy area, and if you go to Lancaster, you will be in the middle of nowhere. Bucks County, might be good, because of good schools, and not too far from Philadelphia. Also, if you pick something like Langhorne or Bensalem, then you could easily hop the NJ Transit train to NY.

Hi:

I live in chester county we have 3 kids - and chose to move here due to the "best" school district in the area.
Cost of living is high so you could move on the outskirts
and it also has a good school district. We have SEPTA transportation which is a real nice way to get to the city, ny and dc.
As nice as Lancaster is it may be culture shock for you and your boys.
Look in to Great Valley schools
The Philadelphia region may be more your cup of tea since you are used to living in a large city. As far as schools go- see if you can get a copy of The Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer on March 25, 2007. It's their annual "Report Card on the Schools" issue which is very informative about what is happening in this area's schools. Good luck and welcome to PA!
