Moving to PA -- Best Town or Suburb?

Relocating to Coopersburg for a job. Never been to PA. Ideally, trying to find a good, safe area with trees, good schools. But also looking for my Whole Foods, Target and Starbucks. North Wales and Denton seem to have those stores -- but would the drive be to far? Or, where else do you recommend -- good places with shops to walk to. Also, looking for a neighborhood with older homes w/big years, not a sea of subdivisions.

Travel Tips

There's alot of development going on all over Montgomery , Lehigh and Buck's Co. If you want a "country "atmosphere the further North (Allentown, Bethlehem, ) you go would be best. Southern Montco (N. Wales, Horsham, Jenkintown) is closer to Philadelphia more choices in shopping, dining etc.
All these areas will have older homes and newer McMansions, townhouses in developments. Home prices are on the high side.

Others
Coopersburg is closer to Allentown, so you may have to give up on being so close to a Whole Foods store. But, if you are willing to commute a little and want more of the creature comforts of a Philadelphia suburb, I would suggest that you check out Doylestown, a very quaint suburb that has the tree lined streets and older homes you are looking for. Another alternative would be Quakertown, but that is a little further out, and you wouldn't have the convenience of being closer to Philly.

Montgomery...I assume you are talking the area around the Montgomery Mall...very suburban...you will lose that old town feel in that area...mostly tract housing.

The Main Line is beautiful! Beautiful old homes and estates (it used to be where the Philly aristocracy had their country homes-) Plenty of snotty arrogant people,lots of shallow, self absorbed trust fund kids,nouveau-riche slobs with delusions of self importance. Its freakin great!

I'd go for North Wales. You'll have your Whole Foods, Target and Starbucks...my essentials as well. The map shows a 27 mile drive north , against the traffic flow of Philadelphia commuters. The town of North Wales has some great older homes. Some areas that consider themselves North Wales, are actually unincorporated areas with lots of tract housing.
You're also on a commuter train line in North Wales that brings you into Philly for fun and recreation.
i live very close to coopersburg, it is a very pretty area. Maybe you would find skippack to your liking? it is very pretty, and has an area of shops and restaurants as well.
