What is a good area to live by around the Temple University campus?

Travel Info
Saftey and security is a must. Also I would like to be within walking distance of a gym and close to campus. Websites and address's would be nice. thanks

Travel Tips
I go to Temple right now and it's been my 5th year here. Yes, Temple's area is not the best but I have not run into any problems yet (knock on wood). I think the key is to not to walk around after midnight by yourself. Around campus, there are a few security booths with security guards set up after 5pm until dawn. And I've always noticed cops driving around. But I suggest living in an apartment complex off campus if you are very concerned with safety. There are security guards at the front desk 24 hours a day, and all are walking distance from Temple's gym.
Here are your choices (although they are kinda pricey):
University Village: http://www.universityvillageattu.com...
Kardon & Atlantic Terminal Buildings: www.philadelphiamanagement.com
The Edge: www.edgeavenorth.com
Here's a list of other apartment complexes from temple's website, but the three I mentioned above are the closest (walking-distance of less than 4 blocks) to campus.

Other Travel Tips
Temple is not in a good neighborhood. Your best bet is to find someplace near a subway stop so you can commute to Temple. Some areas in South Philly aren't too bad...like Bella Vista. Northern Liberties in downtown is also good for college students.
I graduated from Temple and had a lot of friends who rented apartments in the museum area or northern liberties. If you stay near the museum, you can get a bus from the best western to Temple or take the regular bus. Fishtown is getting better and better and isn't far from Temple. You could also find a nice place there.
The other person was right about the area right around there. The campus housing is ok, but to find an apartment around there that will be nice will be pretty much impossible.
You'll love Temple though, have fun.
I totally agree with the first poster - bad neighborhood. You can try going north on Broad and look in the Olney section of Philly (5th street and Olney or on Chelten Ave). I'm pretty sure the bus would take you right to Temple.

My grandmother lived in Olney for years and years up until she passed away in 2003. So I'm pretty familiar with the area, and it's not bad.
No where, wrong part of town sweety. I do not know where in Philly would be safe. I hear west philly isnot as bad as northeast. By my standards they are all the same. Good Luck. Try Bensalem,PA. It is in bucks county but not far from philadelphia and there is a lot of nice areas, gyms are all over the place just find one within your distance. Note: you will come in contact with Philly traffic. But you asked for safety and security.
