Ups and downs of living in philly? |
Travel Info best / worst aspects? Travel Tips Worst aspect is the crime, but that can be said of any large city in America. There are much worse cities than Philly. Pluses...large city living with plenty of cultural events; cheaper rents than say NYC, Boston, San Fran, or LA; access to the beautiful PA Dutch countryside outside of the city; located in a good spot between NYC and DC. Source(s): I must admit...I love Philly. Other Travel Tips Pros- educational and occupational opportunities available through local universities (i.e. Drexel, UPenn, Penn State, Temple); the diverse food options; easy commute to NYC (2hrs by train). Cons- high condo/apartment costs, limited nightlife options. Unfortunately, the crime rate, particularly murders (!) are on the rise and leading the nation. The city's financial picture could be better. Also, neighborhoods can still be very segregated by race and/or ethnicity. That's the bad part... On the good side, we have tons of "quality of life" things to offers. Lots of wonderful cultural and social options - theatre, music, dining out, festivals, you name it. Tons of educational opportunities, if you're interested. The housing market is still reasonable compared to other cities in the northeast. If you live in or near center city you can get by without a car - especially now that Philly Car Share is all over the place! Pros: 1-Many varieties of food to consume 2-Easy to commute to a real city 3-No pesky lines to buy tickets to sporting events, due to poor performing teams 4-Lots of hospital beds for after you get hit by the bullet meant for the knucklehead standing next to you at the bus stop. Cons 1- High Property taxes 2- Unbelievably rude people, oh and violent too. 3- Lots of murder and gun play can get anywhere on public transportation. Home of the greates one day bike race in june each year Good things about philly: lots of nightlife, clubs, food, cultural activities, and schools (college)... Bad things about philly: crime rate is horrible, lots of rude people, and too crowded... |
