Travel Advice: Driving from Philly to Boston next Sunday.? |
Travel Info The last time i did this, it took 2-2 1/2 hours to get over the geo. wash. bridge in the city. does anybody have an alternative route? Travel Tips I would try the Bear Mountain Bridge which is roughly an hour north of the GW Bridge. I would use I-287 in NJ to I-87 North and follow the signs - OR, you could stay on I-87 and take I-84 East. You may find some congestion in Western CT around the cities but things should clear out before Hartford when the road becomes 4 lanes each direction. I-84 will dump you on the Mass Pike and you can take it straight to Boston. Source(s): Traveled that way on a rainy Friday evening to Boston with moderate delays but NOTHING like the GW or Tappan Zee Bridges. Plus, the tolls are way cheaper - no toll on I-84 bridge and $1 for the Bear Mountain Bridge except that you're dealing with a lot of 2 lane twisty roads once you cross that bridge. Other Travel Tips I don't now the exact route, but from Reading Pa to Boston I always used theTappanZee. Yes, you can try the Tappan Zee. It's still prone to traffic though. I think you can catch it in North Jersey as Rt 287 |
