What are considered safer areas to live in the University City area of Philadelphia? |
Travel Info What are considered safer areas to live in the University City area of Philadelphia? Travel Tips The University City area is a bit sketchy and I probably wouldn't want to live there since it's in West Philly, which is one of the worse parts of town. I live in the Wynnefield Heights area right on City Ave, near Belmont Ave. It's a great area, virtually no violent crime. Access to great shopping areas. Convenient to I-76, Center City and the suburbs are very close. I love it and it's one of the few places I'd actually live in in the city. Areas of Roxbourough/Manayunk and NE Philly near Roosevelt Blvd are also good options. Stay out of West Philly. If you attend school down there, public transportation can easily get you there. Only a 15 min bus ride from where I am. Others Did you know that the 2007 rate of murders per capita in Philly is SIX TIMES what it it is in New York? Basically, the numbers are running neck and neck, but New York has six times the population. You may consider living there, but I won't even visit the place. There are no "safer areas" IMHO. im not exactly sure what areas are the safest right there but just talk to a real estate agent or someone along them lines this dude above me is a a** i live in philly i been here my whole life and i dont live in that part of philly but i go down there enough and its not that dangerous I lived in University City for 5 years, on Drexel's campus. The Powelton Village area was always ok. Just always have to be aware of your surroundings and lock doors, etc. I think that is anywhere in Univ City/West Phila. Philly has become a complete sess pool under John Street. No where in that area is really "safe" by most people's standards. The blocks around the colleges are a little better but people there are routinely mugged, robbed, and assaulted there too. I suggest you live in Delaware, Chester, Bucks, or Montgomery County and commute into the city when needed. If you live in Philly, invest in heat. Powelton Village and right around the two campuses are both good spots. It being Philly though, it doesn't matter where you go, since there's always a chance something could happen. One of the biggest problems around there was University City High School. I can't accurately comment on whether the kids are students there (I assume so) but a lot of incidents take place in and around that area. Lots of little teenage punks, but they've become more brazen and dangerous as of late. |
