What is it like to live in Philadelphia? |
Travel Info What is it like to live in Philadelphia? Travel Tips Philadelphia is an amazing, and very underrated, city. I live in a suburb, about 1/2 hr. north of the city, but have lived in Philly and feel proud to claim it as "my" city. Philadelphia has many perks: incredible history and architecture, for a start. Center city Philadelphia is absolutely gorgeous- both for the buildings and the parks. Philadelphia is known for having the most acreage in park-land, and extraordinary art- EVERYWHERE! There are bronze sculptures (by Frederick Remington, Seward Johnson, and many others), mosaics and murals (HUGE ones) everywhere you look, and the beautiful archway into our Chinatown- incredible! We are home to the world famous Phila. Museum of Art, the Rodin museum and many others. It's also a wonderul city for live music and theater (home of the Academy of Music, the Kimmel Center, the Curtis Institute, etc.). The people are, by and large, friendly (although I think that we have the most fickle sports fans in the country!), and the food is fabulous- ethnic, fast or fine dining . . it's as good as you'll find anywhere. I think that the true blessing of living in Philly is the proximity to the shore, the mountains, NYC, Baltimore, DC, and most of all to beautiful Bucks County (where I ive!!) So much culture, history and beauty. Come and visit! (Hopefully, we'll have a new Mayor soon and it'll be even better!) Others i dont know i dont live there go to cali better and maybe compton or L.A It's a lot of fun living in this city. One reason is because of the arts, ranging from numerous art galleries to a variety of shows. Another is the great food. We have delicious food all over the city with international and local favorites. We also have great parks and a ton of people who exercise and spend time out doors with friends and pets. A side note is that Philly is great because we're so close to NYC and only 2 hours from the Baltimore aquarium. Regardless of what people say about people from Philly being rude, we're proud of our city and there is an immediate bond if one of us ever run into another Philadelphian outside of the city. That's because there's nothing like Philadelphia and we know it! it depends where u live. North Philly "badlands" is bad, dirty & crime ridden, but u get used to how u have to live. Never open windows & always check locks etc. But center city is nice. Philly has alot to offer. & the suburbs, especially montgomery county like bluebell & the mainline are very wealthy It depends what you do. Philly has a compact Center City-very organized and small, but it has everything you can think of. If you are visiting, just stick to Front-23St between South & Race St . That area constitutes Center City, including most museums, art galleries, shops, banks, historic building, parks...This is the SAFE part of Philly. If you go south of...South St you could be robbed ot shot in the daylight, so stay out. To me the best part is the Old City (6th to Front St)-charming brick 250-year-old houses with the Old World feel of cozy and quaint village...I just love it. Here I found some maps for you, hope that helps: http://maps.citysearch.com/map/search?lo... http://map.mapnetwork.com/destination/ph... Enjoy and take care:-) |
