I need to Move!?

Travel Info
I live in LA and rent is so expensive my fiance and I are thinking about moving across the country. What are some fun and reasonably cheap areas around philadelphia to live?

Travel Tips
Well what is your price range? Philly can be expensive & the suburbs can be expensive too. unless you move into a bad part, then it will be cheap but I doubt you want to do that. Even Northern liberties is expensive now. & its nice, but it is like 5 blocks from 'badlands' the north philly ghetto & you still need to be careful b/c people from badlands go there to rob people. I say. look for yourself. Northeast Philly is ok & ok priced. The suburbs are nice but more expensive. check out
www. philly.com & look at real estate or rent & check out to see what you like. Also try craigslist.com then go to Philadelphia. It is a beautiful city though.

honestly anywhere in the Pocono's is real nice
the poconos are no where near philly. In philly, i would look for something in the northeast. some places to check out would be Langhorne, Yardley, Bensalem.. for starters, they are very clean and not very expensive.
i live in philly
If you're looking at the city, I'd recommend Fishtown and Northern Liberties. NL is in the middle of this whole gentrification thing, and the area is really coming up...new restaraunts, bars, stores and people. Prices are going up though, and the NL crowd seem to be complainers.

Fishtown is just north of NL, and for a little while was benefitting from NL's rise. Since the market has slowed down though, Fishtown isn't getting the press as 'the next place to be', but the local residents haven't stopped working on the area. Fishtown is now working itself into it's own boom, and not just one that piggy-backed off of NL's. They're also seeing new bars, multiple renovations, an influx of new and different crowds, etc. It's probably a little quieter than NL too.

Both are less than 1/2 mile away from the river, maybe 1 mile from where Penn's Landing (The Riverfront) starts becoming more pedestrian friendly. You're also walking distance to Center City and Old City. The only problems I can foresee are proposed slot parlors. They're still in litigation, but if they pass and are allowed to be built on the Delaware River, it'll be very close to NL and Fishtown, presumably bringing a surge of undesirables into the area, and it will DEFINTELY ruin the flow of traffic, as it's already terrible (a casino would just kill it though).

You can stick to Center City, and take a look at some of the new condos going up. Even though the R.E. Markets in the country took a dump, the Northeast always remained strong, and combined with a 10 yr. Property Tax Abatement on new construction in the City Limits, there's a ton of new construction worth taking a look at.

Without knowing you two personally though, it's hard to guage what kind of place and location might appeal to you. Ask some questions in here, and take a look at all of the different sections of Philly...

Delaware. Philly tends to be a little expensive. However, there are way too many people moving to Delaware these days (probably for jobs. Apparently there are a lot here!!!) and urban sprawl is a big problem in the Northern Delaware/Philly area..
Good Luck with your move. If you want to be in the city I would recommend South Philly, Fishtown and Northern Liberties or the North East. If you'd like to be outside of the city and work in the city. I'd recommend most of South Jersey (Except Camden area) and Bucks County. You can also look to Chester County.
