Anyone know of a nice inexpensive hotel/motel about 10-12 miles from Philidelphia, PA for 8/3-6/07? |
Travel Info We will be going doen for the King Tut Exhibit and have a hotel in NJ, but it seems that it is very hard to get from there to Phili. Hotels in NJ are open for discussion, too. Travel Tips I'm not sure where your hotel is in Jersey, but it's usually not too bad of a ride. If you're near Rt. 295, you should be fine heading into the city anytime except for weekdays between 3 and 6pm. Ditto for getting back INTO Jersey on Route 676 and 42, but more so for the weekends in that instance. From Exit 3 of the NJ Turnpike though, it's only about a 10 minute drive considering traffic and lights. There is a Holiday Inn right there at Exit 3 as a matter of fact (it's the Black Horse Pike and the town is called Runnemede). Otherwise, in the city there are a ton of options. In terms of inexpensive and close to the Franklin Institute though, you should look into the Best Western on 21st and Hamilton. http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/... I have no idea what kind of a hotel it is, but I do know that it's convenient to a lot of things...there's a Wawa right across the street (next to a police station even) and you're a short walk from the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Kelly Drive, Boathouse Row, University City, and Center City, so everything's right there. There is also a ton to eat around there, including a small, quiet bar off 20th called McCrossen's. Of course, there's also a ton of other places right in that area (the "Art Museum Area", or "Fairmount")...Bishop's Collar, Briget's, London Grill and then the whole city within a $10 cab ride. Considering that you're going to the Tut Exhibit, you're not familiar with the area and NJ Shore traffic heading out of Philly will be in the way, I'd try and stay in Philly. If you come in Friday night, see the sights and try and get back to a Jersey hotel, you'll spend most of the night in your car. Others www.hotels.com put in your dates and your area and they will search and show you all the rates and you can book it from right there. the lincoln motel at us1 (roosevelt blvd) and old lincoln hwy appx 60 a night depending on what you want they have rooms with themes I always have good luck at either Hampton Inns or Fairfield Inns. They are pretty consistent across the country. If you use hotwire.com, you can put in a price and a star rating and they will give you anonymous hotel prices for a particular area. I have gotten some good deals there. The only catch is that once you book, you have to pay in full and you cannot cancel. I used to use it all the time until I became a marriott rewards member and started traveling for work a lot. 10-12 miles in NJ? No problem. That should put you in say Cherry Hill. NJ Transit has service from South Jersey by bus & train to Philly. Most should have some shuttle service to the city or cab. Last time took I A ride from say Mt. Ephraim to City Hall it was about $30. Once your in Center city, the museum is easy to get to on the Ben Franklin parkway. |
