A Hotel In a Nice part of Philadelphia?

Travel Info
My friends and I are taking a trip to Philadelphia over the summer to catch a weekend baseball series, but we are from detroit and have no idea of any of the areas of philly. Where are the nicer areas of town, and what would be a good hotel there. Also prefferably not too expensive.

Travel Tips
You can stay at the Hyatt or the comfort inn that's cheaper . They are both on the river and close to the river clubs and olde city .The nicer ones are in Center city like the Loews or the Marriot you can take the Subway right to the stadium
Others
Stay in Center City Philly's crime rate is high this year and you woudln't want to stay anywhere else.
Anywhere in downtown is nice and safe. There's the Marriott, Doubletree, and some more I can't think of at the moment. It's along broad street so it's not too far from the stadium. Or you can stay at a hotel near the airport.
Try the Residence Inn Center City. Nice Place.

Residence Inn is in a good location-- walking distance to bars, clubs, restaurants, stores, City Hall, etc. The hotel is also across the street from the Broad St Subway, which will be the fastest and most convenient way for you to get to Citizens Bank Park for the games. DON'T DRIVE TO THE PARK. Heavy traffic and $20+ parking lot fees are a hassle and a rip-off. A lot of people just take the subway-- $5 round trip.

I've used that Residence Inn several times to book a room there for friends/family when they came to visit Philly. Some of the rooms are like small apartments: LR, BR, a full kitchen and dining area. 3-5 people can sleep comfortably. And if you want to save money on eating out, the Reading Terminal Market is 2 blocks away, and there's a stove, large fridge and microwave in all the rooms-- even a dishwasher! RI also has a complimentary breakfast buffet for guests.

The price was maybe $20-$30 more than standard hotel rooms, but considering the larger space and extra amenities, I thought the price was reasonable. After booking it the first time, I didn't mind paying a little extra. Definitely worth it!

Just check it out, book the room and enjoy Philadelphia. Trust me on this one, dude.

(GO PHILLIES, YO!!)
Stay downtown and take the subway to the ballgame. The best hotels in the city are The Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Westin, Loews, Omni and Sofitel. They are all quite pricey. If you are looking for something nice but more reasonable, you can try Doubletree, Sheraton Society Hill, Hyatt, Best Western, Marriott. More low budget still ok would be Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Historic District. Try using Hotwire to book your room. I always have good luck with that. Philly is a great city. Have fun!!!
If you're going to be catching the whole series there, you may want to consider the Holiday Inn that's literally walking distance from the Park. There really isn't a whole lot to do around there except for tailgate and watch the games (there's a beer distributor right there, and Tony Lukes...some of the best sandwiches around).

Your other options, like others have touched on, is to find a place near the Broad Street Line (Orange Line) Subway. That's the most direct form of public transit to get to the stadiums, and they're the last stop, so you can't miss it. If you do that, stick to Center City itself, as Broad Street gets kind of hairy on either side of City Hall.
I was born In Philly many many years ago. There was a very expensive hotel, the Bellvue Stratford. I have no idea if it exists today. However there are many many hotels in the downtown Philly area. Contact a chain hotel and I know they can help you. Try AAA.
