Are there any good hiking loops in Wharton State Forrest, in the pinebarrens of New Jersey? |
Travel Info I need a good hiking route, for a one-night loop in Wharton State Forrest. Preferably along a water source if possible. Thanks. Travel Tips It's not a loop, but the Batona Trail is great, right through the heart of the pine barrens. There are a number of designated camping spots along the trail, and it's very scenic (good blueberry picking!) What we do is park one car and one end then drive back to the start. Other highlights of this trail are the Caranza Memorial, commemorating the crash of an aviator from (I think!) Mexico who was trying for a trans-Atlantic crossing, and Apple Pie Hill, a fire tower from whence you can se Atlantic City and Philadelphia in the distance. Check out these web sites: http://www.njpinelandsanddownjersey.com/... http://members.aol.com/batona/batonatrai... NOTE: Be sure to wear shoes with good ankle support, as the trails are sandy; also, there's not much tree cover, so bring sunblock and a hat! Enjoy! Source(s): experience Other Travel Tips njdepe.com or org. that should help you out not real sure but i thin its called the murice river. in the basto area of the pine barrons. give a call to a canoe rental place in basto nj and they will tell you |
