Is King Tut's Sarcophagus on display in Philly? |
Travel Info I am planning a trip to the Ben Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to see the King Tutankhamen (King Tut) exhibit. I am wondering if his actual famous sarcophagus will be on display? Travel Tips No. It won't be leaving Egypt again; a "holographic" reporduction is there Antiquities Close to 130 artifacts comprise Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. 50 artifacts excavated from the tomb of King Tutankhamun that range from his royal diadem or crown to the confinettes that contained his organs. In addition to the artifacts from Tut鈥檚 tomb there are more than 70 pieces from tombs of rulers also part of the 鈥淕olden Age鈥? All of the antiquities within the exhibit date back more than 3,500 years. You can contact them by phone or email to ask if the actual sarcophagus is on display: http://www2.fi.edu/shared/contact.php... http://www.fi.edu No the actual sarcophagus is not on display, they have a few of his organ urns and a few of the amulets that were found in his mummy wrappings on display, but the actual sarcophagus is not there, it is in Egypt. The display was very good, there was a lot of information and ALOT of artifacts from his life and his family's life on display. I went to see the exhibit in March and loved it NO. I was just there on Friday (6/1) (I'm from Atlanta and was visiting Philadelphia for a long weeekend), it was a great exhibit, they did have several King Tut artifacts from his tomb, but he & his sarcophagus were not there. I would advise if you are going to buy tickets ahead of time and to get a tour first thing in the morning. We went in about 9:45am for our 10am tour, there wasn't that many people in our group when we went in & we could actually look at the exhibit. Some of the reviews I read before I went actually said that people were 6 people deep looking at the exhibits. Luckily we didn't have that problem when we went (probably because it was a weekday & because it was before the crowd & school trips got there). It was still a fantastic exhibit & I really enjoyed it. They did have a sarcophagus on display, but it wasn't King Tut's. I hope you go check it out & hope you enjoy the exhibit before it leaves for London. |
