Is it safe to stay at a hotel 8 miles away from Atlantic City? (Liberty Inn in Galloway, NJ)?

Travel Info
Because the hotels in the casino vicinity is soo expensive (400-500) for a satuday night. Liberty Inn is only 129. I heard that it can be dangerous but I'm not sure. If anyone has any experience with staying in hotels away from the casinos, please help.

Travel Tips
During high season in Atlantic City, I can't recall any nice hotel that would cost only $129. Even the lower-end hotel chains (HoJo's, Holiday Inn, Choice Brand hotels) go for $200+.

I've never stayed there, but I think I've passed Liberty Inn on the AC Expwy. From the outside, it looks okay, but if it's an independent hotel and not owned by one of the big chains, then be very flexible and be prepared for whatever-- rust stains, cigarette burns, dusty corners, etc. Also, pack a sheet, a travel pillow and towel just in case the hotel linen doesn't look "user-friendly", and have flip-flops for the bathroom and shower.

In terms of safety, I think you should be okay. Use common sense and don't do anything stupid. If you're a woman traveling alone, then take some extra precautions, but nothing extreme.

I would also suggest that you check Liberty Inn via hotel reviews on several websites-- Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com. I think Yahoo even has a travelers page with hotel reviews. On these sites, I have found that people are very, very honest and objective about their hotel stays. They've been very helpful for me.

It's safe even if the hotel was 8 feet from the casino.
I think the previous answer was suppose to be, it ISN'T safe even if the hotel is 8 feet from the casino. Pretty much don't leave the building at night. There are crazy people on the Broadwalk. They just lost their shirts at the casino and they want yours! :) How are you getting to the casinos from the Inn?
Some of the places outside of the casino areas are very, very seedy. The Liberty Inn is more of a motel than hotel. Many of the motels have "residents," or "hourly occupants." You may want to check the rates at the Sheraton @ the Atlantic City Convention Center; the Holiday Inn @ Boardwalk; or the Marriott. I would stay away from motels, unless that's what you are prefer.
