What is the best way to get from Philly to New Canaan, CT? |
Travel Info Would it be faster/better to drive or take a train(s)? We want to go straight there, not stop and sightsee on the way. Travel Tips If it's more than one person, drive. Take the NJ turnpike to the GS Parkway , cross at the TZ Bridge (nasty toll), take the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Merritt Parkway and you're there. Coming back, no bridge toll. About 3 hours. NJ Turnpike toll is about $3 each way, Garden State is about $1. Taking the train requires you to either take Amtrak, or take NJ transit from Trenton to Penn Station, then transfer to Grand Central to catch the CT Metro rail to New Canaan. Others That's a tough one. The Metro-North commuter train lines merge just before New Rochelle, NY - which is close to New Canaan but no cigar. In terms of driving, I can't stand the GW Bridge or the Tappan Zee Bridge except between 2-4 AM where only truckers use the bridges. If you travel at those times, then take I-95 from Philly through NYC and take the appropriate exit for New Canaan. |
