Curious what philly people think of pittsburgh?!? |
Travel Info ok... i happen to love the city even though i live on the other side of the state... im a pittsburgher/w. pennsylvanian at heart and i notice alot of people have a negative image of it and that the people are hicks... just thinking about it bc a local radio was making fun of them earlier... i kno pittburghers have an accent... but just curious... what do u think?! i already posted this i nthe general section but i wanted to know specifically what philadelphians thought of pittsburgh and its people bc i kno i get quite a negative reaction when i wear my hines jersey, is it that u hate the steelers or just the town in general? Travel Tips I think what you said about Philadelphians believing that Pittsburghers are hicks kind of sums it up. The two cities are opposite, you must admit. Philly is more northeastern urban, where as Pittsburgh is more mid-western. I like them both, actually. Others I think Pittsburgh is a great city with a sports history second to none. I think that is why some people from Philly have a bad attitude about Pittsburgh. Of course, some people born and raised in Philly and surrounding area are known for their bad attitudes. They have a chip on their shoulder from being second potato to NYC. I'm originally from central PA and have spent time in both areas. Both areas have their accents so that is not much of an issue. Having lived in both cities I can say that people from Pittsburgh think that Philly is dirty and sucks. To be honest people in Philly could really care less about Pittsburgh. I think Pittsburgh is the worst city I have ever been to in the country. Go Steelers. I lived in Philadelphia and the northern suburbs for years. However, I was born in Johnstown so I have a unique perspective. People in Philly are Eagles fans, period, they hate every other team, not just the Steelers. You should go to the Dallas game, not a pretty site. Pretty much Philadelphians think the entire rest of the state is hicksville. I think of Pittsburgh as more of a midwest city than an eastern city. There is a bit of a sports rivalry, but not nearly as intense as it once was. In the 70's there was a bit rivalry between the Phillies and Pirates, but that is , basically history., Now, take the Eagles ==Please take them! Hi love - I'm from New Zealand and yes I check out the Philly questions just in case there's one about my Favourite City! PITTSBURGH! I'm not sure what there is about any inter-city rivalry ... look at 'burgh and Cleveland. Of course I don't know much about American history, but I get the sense that Philadelphia or Philadelphians consider themselves superior to the rest of the country because of the 'Declaration of Independence' signing. Just a feeling - no insult to the city at all. I hope to get there on my 3rd visit to PA and that the Philadelphians will prove my feeling wrong. Btw - Pittsburghers have an accent? They're the only ones? I do ... a New Zealand accent. Reminising here - but I remember last November being in Phoenix and wearing a Steelers shirt when an ex-burgher called out to me - she couldn't believe there were Steelers fan in AZ, let alone a fan from NZ in AZ - Steelers fans are International! Just me - US Vacation - Pittsburgh is where my heart is ... it's home :) |
