MARAGTAS - was the source of history according to our Filipino historians. Maragtas is a Hiniray-a word (Hiniray-a - dialect used by people of Antique province and some part of Iloilo).

The "Maragtas of Panay" by Pedro Monteclaro which recounts the oral history of the ten bornean datus who landed in our shores in 1212 was the basis of our historical record.

During Magellan's time, the sources were the writings of Pigafetta. Before the Spaniards came, historians cited the artifacts that were unearthed here such as china jars that the we already traded with other Asian nations such as Chinese, Arabs and others...mostly, the history was written by the scribe of the different tribes during that time.
