For Phil. visitors and travellers, do you know that the Philippines received......? |
Travel Info ...$110 mil in foreign assistance from the USA in 2006? In contrast, Vietnam got $60 mil and Thailand $14 mil. Is this amount too much? Too little? Is this money put to effective good use, or wasted? Travel Tips it saddens me to learn the fact that money as big as that never gets to reach the people who most need it.., but I believe that we do need it and we deserve it, else why would USA give it (right??), but I believe that concerned people (like me^^) money or no money are very much willing to help out and contribute for the betterment of our society, there is still hope for a change that one day the people on the position will put the nation麓s need first and foremost! Others It's not put to effective use, but it's a kind of rental money for having had a base in the Philippines for years and leaving behind lots of problems when the US left, for example, contaminated land etc. Wasted. I think that's great! No amount is never too little, they need all the help they can get. I happen to believe the money is put to effective good use to help improve their environment & to help the homeless, the sick & the needy. I think you need a break. Have a vacation. You worry too much for something that is beyond your control. I experienced the same stuff, put all the world's problem to my shoulder. But hey, we only have one life to live and you're better off enjoying it before it's too late. Relax. Aight? As a matter of fact, the US Government gives out money, but then again, they collect all the more. The US government is aware that this "economic-assistance" never gets to the people who need it. And the politicians who steal it know that the US knows. Foreign aid from the United States is like a bribe. It's like a "here-you-go-i'll-need-your- help-later" payment. Hey, somebody has to pay the rent for all those US military personnel that the Phil government allows to stay on it's soil. And it's not just the Philippines, just look south of the USA. Why do you think the Philippine president supported the US led war in Iraq knowing about the overwhelming opposition? It's all messed up. ADDITIONAL: How can I blame the Americans for this misallocation of valuable financial aid? Why don't you ask the Marcos family? Or maybe Joseph Estrada? Or how about the military officials in the Pentagon who still treat the Philippines as their monkey-colony? And what SHOULD I DO? Get militant about it? It's a sad fact that people never see a dime of that money and I sympathize with them. You don't have to be a political scientist or a conspiracy theorist to think this one up. Too little. considering the damage they have done to people specially in the Zambales and Pampanga provinces were many people got sick because of the hazardous waste they left on their former bases..no amount is enough for the lives of the people that were permanently damaged. Too little..considering the rapid rise in AIDS cases in the Philippines, and it is concentrated in Ologapo and Angeles area only where the bases are operating before.. Too little ..considering the innocent lives of Amerisians children that willl forever suffer the stigma when their American fathers lieft them... The list goes on and on... If you are asking if the amount is put on good use, my answers is NO. The government admitted, so many times already that, on the national budget (taxes, donations,assistance) only 45 % goes to projects and 55 % goes to corruption.. I dont see the logic why US and other countries are still giving financial assistance to Phil government.. If you want to help the Phils, help the people, not the politicians. Give us easy access to US, give us jobs. Do not give us US-made blankets, medicines, and other relief goods. It becomes cheap, expired, China-made when it reaches the recipients.
