Travel Tips As a tourist, you will be automatically given 21 days stay in the Philippines upon your arrival. Beyond 21 days you have to secure a visa in the Immigration Bureau. http://www.immigration.gov.ph http://www.dfa.gov.ph You should make sure your passport is still valid for the next 6 months. Check your passport expiration. If not, you have to renew it before coming to the Philippines. By Philippine law, you are required to show a return or outward ticket to the Immigration officer upon your arrival. However this is not commonly practiced. But still, prepare your ticket, just in case. Hepatitis is a big problem in the Philippines. 1 out of 7 Filipinos have Hepatitis and some does not even know it. Get your Hepatitis vaccination if you plan to eat local food or fool around in the red district. When changing currency, avoid if possible street money changers. They might give you good exchange rates but some are just plain unscrupulous (you do not know if the currency they are giving you are genuine or fake). Change currencies in banks, malls or shopping centers. Some travelers no longer recommend Travelers Check. ATM's and credit cards are more highly recommended. Though becareful of bank charges. This could be a return ticket to where you started or a ticket to go to another country. You will get an automatic 21 day visa when you get to the Philippines (free). If you are going to stay longer you need to renew your visa every 59 days with the Philippine Immigration office (no big deal you don't need a fixer) just go to the window and tell them you want to extend your tourist visa) Prices vary depending on how many times you extend but always less than $100.U.S. and sometimes as little as $25. You need no extra medical protection to come here. If you are taking medication make sure you bring enough with you. If you have medical problems ask your doctor about the flight time in the air, about 15 hours. Make sure you check your expire date on your passport as you have to have 6+ months left, once you arrive you'll get a 21 day visa and if you plan on staying longer you can extend for 38 more days and then every 59 days up to 1 year.
