The standard from a Bank or other financial institution is 30 BANKING days to cash a check from the U.S.

Some check cashing institutions will do it it 30 CALLENDAR days.

The ONLY way I have found to cash checks from the U.S. sooner than that is with a GUANTEOR that is a Perminant Resident and willing to sighn the paperwork to assume liability for that check through a check cashing institution. Source(s): Lived here in the Philippines the past 5 years.

You could always try stopping by your looking local U.S. Consulate or Emabssy. They can answer many of your questions related to the U.S.
I don't think any institution would cash cheques over the counter. You probably need to open an account so that you can bank said cheque into it.
agree with chuck, you have to have an account and deposit the check there and withdraw it afterwards. most of the banks in the Philippines usually require a minimum balance to be maintained in your account
banks in the provinces would require you to deposit the checks and for you to wait up to 45 days clearing time after which you can withdraw your dollars for encashment. in reality checks are cleared in america within a weeks time.

there are some private individuals who encash checks at a very low rate(three to four pesos below official exchange rate) but this are unliscensed money changers and would only encash from known customers with good track record. especially from families with members working overseas.**
