Do (most/some) who grew up in Metro Manila still loook down to people coming from the provinces? |
Travel Info Definitely, not all. I came from the province and experienced some discriminations when I was in college. Maybe, its a long time ago. lol Travel Tips I grew up in Germany and I live in Baguio and La Union. I go to manila at least once a month and I saw that the lifestyle IS very different there. Sometimes I don't feel comfortable in Manila because of the way i dress... I guess. I like to keep it simple, a normal shirt, shorts and sneakers. Strolling around in the malls and seeing the people staring at me, just because my shirt is not pink and does not shout "penshoppe" sometimes makes me feel discriminated. The Brand-war truly exists, but I choose not to take part in that. Well I already notice discrimination not only from the Manilenyos to the Probincianos, but also from the Baguio Citizen to the Probincianos. I am generalizing here, of course not all Manilenyos are like that. I mean no offense to anyone from Manila Another thing I noticed is when I lived in Germany "everybody" was from Manila. and when you ask where in Manila, they'll say "Makati or Rizal" I also heard things like "Manila, Baguio or Manila, Dumaguete" Now, are we being or do we let ourselves be discriminated? Source(s): Experience Other Travel Tips not anymore. sikat ang mga bisaya.** not everyone.... most manilenos even have homes in the province.... even if we didnt grow up there we still go there every once in a while.... personally i like having friends from the province... i learn a lot from them.... not really, but i have this new classmate shes from palawan and shes always been the laughing stuff in our room..... kawawa ng nga sa eh......... That is why everybody's pushing for development in the countryside. Anyway, those who look down on people are a few who are not educated properly by their parents, we should not generalize. I was born in Makati and grew up in B.F. Las Pi帽as M.M. Thank you for not generalizing. I met a Filipina here in Europe from Cebu once and her reaction when she knew I came from Manila, she became aggresive and answered: " I came from where the maids ( katulong/atsay ) come from". That is true. That is mostly the case. Even until now. When I last traveled the Philippines 2002, we were in a taxi in Cebu and the taxi driver told me, even when I was not asking for it, that there are a lot of maids in Cebu if I'm interested. I don't think that it's only Manilanians who looks down to people coming from the province but because of this complex, the people who comes from the province themselves are doing it too to their own kababayan from the province. ex: In a crowded place a guy asked a woman where she comes from and she said: " She is a Manilanian ". After a while someone stepped on her foot and cried " Aruw and Aguy ! ". The guy who told this joke comes from the province too. He is ok because he could laugh about it and is not ashamed of the fact how things turned out. But again T.Y. for not generalzing. We are all Filipinos and we need each other. What or whichever way we do it, we could be a good team. |
