Why is there so much construction in Phoenix?

Travel Tips
The new light rail they are putting in.

Also, there is ALWAYS construction in Phoenix. Phoenix is a huge city and is growing bigger every day. With more people there is more wear and tear on all the roads, so there is constantly work being done on the roads and freeways. Source(s): Born and raised in Phoenix.

Other Travel Tips
It is probably to attract tourists and/or people with deep pockets.
Baby Boomers. They are getting old enough to realize that there is more to life than living in the North, Cold, Rainy, Polluted areas of the country. Arizona taxes are very user-friendly. Some believe that their arthlitis really is better in the warm, dry climate, I am one of those believers. The money you save on utilities alone will support a fair part of your lifestyle.

Older people, especially people of means, and widows and widowers, prefer to life in a community where they don't have to worry about shoveling snow, hail, bundling-up to go to the store, don't worry about crimes, and can spend their money and time enjoying meeting people with similar interests: cards, swiming, exercising in a pool, taking tours to Las Vegas, and sizing each other up for possible LTR or More!

The people there discovered that in order to handle the constant influx of new Arizonan's that they needed to build high-quality housing, in Communities, rather than in the normal "sprawl" of other cities.

Personal knowledge. Lived in Arizona, bought a house in Arizona, know the flow of the Baby Boomers as they get older, I am a nursing home administrator, and a Registered Nurse.
I just moved here from San Diego. With the profit I made selling my house I can pay almost cash for a home 2x the size of my Ca. house. Also, I have enough funds to open my own retail-storefront business.

I live in Buckeye about 35 miles west of Phoenix. First came the houses and lots of them. Now the shops and services are being built like wildfire to meet the needs of the new residents. Also there are upgrades being done to the governmental service buildings to enlarge them to support the growing populations as their tax base is swelling. With the sprawl comes additional construction needs of widening streets, putting in traffic lights, building schools, extending sewer lines, putting in new water systems, digging wells and putting in sceptic systems.

The valley mostly has a good climate, especially for us baby-boomers and has affordable golf courses, gasoline, houses, and utility rates. The next big construction task here is going to be the widening and extensions of the major freeway systems (that's gonna be a pain) where we will spend a whole lot of energy looking for alternate driving routes. Hope this sheds some direct light on the question you asked...have a super day....good question by the way.
