Whats a good town in Arizona to stay in near the BIG grand canyon? |
Travel Info Is there a city near the Grand Canyon that would be fun to stay in overnight?? Travel Tips "Gateway to the Grand Canyon" - Williams, AZ This is a lovely and historic town located on the old route 66 and is just 59 miles from the Canyon. We stayed here overnight in a nice little motel, had dinner at Rod's Steakhouse - can't miss it, has a huge steer standing in front of restaurant on route 66. We took off in the morning, drove north on AZ 64N and were at the Canyon in little over an hour. Williams is a unique community with a storied past. While today's visitors can experience the modern amenities seen in most tourist destinations, they are also invited to personally share in the history and nostalgia of this mountain community. Founded in the late 1800's by ranchers, railroaders, and lumbermen, Williams' name comes from the famous trapper and "mountain man", Bill Williams. You can also catch a train there that will take you to the Canyon and let you see some amazing sights on the way. |
