Going to the Grand Canyon for the first time. anyone have advice? |
Travel Info later this month we are traveling from Sacramento to Arizona. we have one day to drive around the grand canyon and maybe eat at a few restaurants. anyone with experience traveling the south hwy 64. good eats? motel recommendations? traveling with child. Travel Tips Take some kind of vehicle, it saves on the shoe leather. Others Just be prpared to have your breath taken away when you look over the rim...be sure to go to the national park...not that cheesy sky walk thing the indians built. I was pregnant when I went for the first/only time. We took a helicopter ride over the canyon that was amazing!! I was a little naseaus during my first trimester, but still, it was great! They give you earphones and you hear amazing symphony music while a narrator talks about the canyon and the history, etc. We stayed in Santa Fe and also Flagstaff. We really didn't stop at anything along the way so I can't really recommend anything other than the great helicopter ride. If your child is old enough, definitely check into it! Have fun! Been there, done that. Right now it is snowy, always wear a hat, take binoculars, cameras, etc. Stop at Hermits Rest. It's a great view. The Skywalk is open I think, but I hear it's like $75 per person. Squirrels will try to steal small stuff and food. They are not that afraid of people and even tried to steal my little sister's stuffed animal (which was a squirrel). The only advice I can give you is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch out for your child!!! The Grand Canyon is a great place but it is also very dangerous in unguarded areas. I hope you have a wonderful time! It is beautiful! i was there four days ago!!! |
