Fun family outings in the Phoenix AZ area? |
Travel Info Will be in the Phoenix area next week for a wedding and since we'll be there for several days was wondering about some family-friendly activities for our family (3 kids ages 2 to 9). Thanks. Travel Tips If your kids like trains there is a train park in Scottsdale that is great. My boys love it you can ride on a miniture train plus it has a great play area. There is alot of grass also for the kids to run. It is located on Hayden and just East of Scottsdale rd It might cost a few but like 5 dollars for the whole family. But it is well worth it. Others Try Sunsplash/Golfland. Its a great waterpark/ mini golf place that is decently priced for what they have to do. Its also a great way to beat the heat, esecially if your not used to it. sunsplash is fun or big surf or water world good places or casles and costers Since nobody's mentioned the zoos, I'll add them. The Phoenix Zoo is the "big" zoo for the area and features all the "usual" animals, plus a huge playground that the kids will love. It's very big; I'd recommend taking the tram ride, then going back to visit your favorite places. The thing I don't like about the Phoenix Zoo, though, is that in the kiddie petting zoo, that's ALL you get to do is "pet" the animals. You're given a hair brush as you go in, because feeding the animals is a big No-no there. The petting-area animals are bored and boring. On the other hand, there's a fascinating walk-thru monkey house at the Phoenix Zoo that you won't find in other places. The Wildlife World Zoo on the west side is my favorite zoo in Phoenix. It's a privately-owned zoo and rather scruffy looking. The parking lot isn't even paved, and neither are most of the walking paths at the zoo. (Construction is underway to pave the parking lot, thankfully.) Despite its looks, kids have fun there because you CAN feed the animals. At the petting zoo, you'll be amidst a swarm of goats and deer vying for the pellets. Yet, there are food-pellet machines in other places throughout the park, as well. There's also a giraffe feeding station that the kids in my family simply adored. If you're a photographer, you'll like the way the animals are easier to photograph at this zoo, as well. There's a 3rd zoo in Phoenix; Out of Africa animal park. But, I haven't been there yet. For kiddie rides, there's a good group of rides at Encanto Park. There's a train, a jr. roller coaster, carousel, and others for a total of about a dozen rides. |
