35,000 a yr in Arizona, is that enough for a family to live there? |
Travel Info Is that reasonable with the cost of living in AZ? Travel Tips That is what my husband makes and I have the luxury of being a stay at home mom. Money can get tight sometimes, but we manage. If you don't have a lot of debt, it can be plenty of money. And if you keep your rent/mortgage payment under $1000/month, then $35K a year should get you by. It's not all about how much money you make, but how good you are at managing it. I know people who make 6 figures and are struggling more than we are because they didn't know how to manage it. Others If you are very frugal it might be but I live in Arizona and make that amount and I'm single. I find it difficult and don't get out much to do many fun things. I have neighbors who have children on slightly more than my income and they seem to do alright but no one is driving new cars or buying houses. Their children are teen agers with their own jobs and buy their own clothes with their income...they have four children all over 10 and their father is a music teacher...mom manages a swimming pool and their total income is about $50,000. I really don't know how they manage...they drive an old, old car and are proud of it...its all about attitude. Arizona, especially Northern Arizona where its much cooler, is simply poverty with a view. It really depends where you want to live. If in the Phoenix area, it'd depend on the suburb you were looking at. It really varies a lot. its not enough..it use to be. I make that amount and i live paycheck to paycheck.. never lived like this before. and you will spend more then you normally would because there is so much to do. sports, arts, festivals, movies, concerts, plays, its endless the things you have to do here. and when you first move here you get cought up in all that. even if you live in the burbs..but keep in mind. phoenix suburbs is not the same as a suburb of chicago for example. phoenix is a city of concrete as far as the eye can see(when its not a smogy day) I don't think that's enough for a family to live here, no. As mentioned there are other considerations, like which area you live in. It's cheaper to live in Avondale than it is Scottsdale :) Also, which Electric company makes a difference, APS is expensive compared to SRP. You will pay at least $600 a month for a decent one bedroom apartment, and electricity will be about $175 in the summer and winter a little cheaper. Overall, there are a LOT of people making $25K - $40K in Arizona, so you CAN do it, ya just gotta be ready and willing to make sacrifices and/or adjustments :) I used to live in AZ :) |
