I want to move to Phoenix , AZ in 2 months? |
Travel Info Does anyone from Phoenix have any advice for an individual as myslef who is moving from Michigan? What are the safe areas to live in? How is the job market? What are some places of interest? Any useful information!!!!!!! Thanks!!!! Travel Tips I would agree with fnsurf. You really want to find yourself a job first and then find a place as close as possible to that job. It takes me (from the east side of the valley) an hour and 1/2 to get to my brothers house in the west side of the valley with no traffic on a Sunday. It is over 50 miles. Safe places...I would just stick to the newer developments (there is a lot of them). Surprise, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Maricopa, Scottsdale are all growing quite a bit. The more established cities like Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Glendale you need to pinpoint the safe areas. I think that the job market is good. I know in my field (IT) if you find someone, you have to act quick or they will probably not be there any more. As for places of interest, are you talking about the city or the state in general. I am not a big "city life" type of person, so I am not sure I would be much help there. There are a lot of sports type of things that go on. On the west side of the valley you have the Arizona Cardinals, the Phoenix Coyotes, the Arizona Sting, spring baseball. Downtown you have the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Rattlers. East Valley you have spring baseball, golf (FBR Open). I am personally more into the outdoors, so South Mountain, Canyon Lake, Superstition Mountains, Usary Pass are all great outdoor things to do as well (at least in the East Valley). Hope this helps. East valley is where I have lived all my life and I like it there are some small parts that are a little sketchy but overall it is pretty safe. try to get your work situation taken care of before you commit to where you want to live because anything you can do to shorten your commute is a wise plan. Freeways and transportation has not kept up with the growth so where you work and where you live is something to think about with today's gas prices. Well good luck. Feel free to email me for any further info. I grew up here left for 4 years and returned and have been working/living here ever since. scottsdale is nice and a little cooler but expensive. Ahwatokee is nice and inexpensive. bring lots of sunscreen. Scottsdale,Gilbert, Tempe,Mesa, anywhere in the east valley is a nice place to live. the best mall is Scottsdale Fashion Square. some radio stations are 104.7, 96.9, 100.7, 103.9, 92.3, 97.9, and 101.5. most people like to hike in the superstitions mountains. Tempe Town Lake is a cool place too. if you are moving to the west valley, the best mall is arrowhead mall. some cool places up there are Lake Pleasant and Waterworld. the west valley is near sun city by all the seniors, and the east valley is more the younger crowd. the cool place about here is you are near las vegas, the ocean, Mexico, and the Grand Canyon. the south part of the state is more desert-y, the middle is the city part, and the north part is the forest where there is some snow. good luck on your move! i have lived here all my life in both the east valley and west valley |
