Hi, i currently live in new jersey and i'm thinking of moving out west to scottsdale, any insight? |
Travel Info I'm 27 years old and single, just looking for a change of pace, different people, etc. The warmer weather is attractive to me as I don't care for the brutal coldness of winter here in Jersey. Travel Tips I've lived here all my life. Grew up in Tempe and Scottsdale (bordering cities) and have loved it. The weather is unbearable in the summer but if you're used to humidity, you might not mind the "dry" summer temperatures. The Fall, Spring and Winter months are absolutely gorgeous. This is definitely a car town. You pretty much just drive from parking lot to parking lot to get wherever you need to go. Mass transit sucks out here (although they are building the light rail but I don't think that will even be operational until 2009 or 2010). Scottsdale is pricey but if you can afford it, more power to you. If you can't, there are plenty of other areas of town that are nice but more affordable. Personally, I love Tempe, most of Chandler, Ahwatukee (also pricey), Scottsdale (south Scottsdale is cheaper than north Scottsdale). Someone recomended Maricopa but I have to warn you, that's pretty "out of town" from everything. My best friends live there and gas costs just to spend time with their friends is ridiculous. Let's see ... what else ... The Phoenix area kind of lacks in culture. There's no real "downtown" culture like you'd find in most cities. They're trying to build that up but frankly, I don't think they're doing that great of a job. There are plenty of bars, live music shows, art galleries, museums, etc to go to though. There's definitely entertainment ... just not much culture. One more positive is that you're close to everything. Snow is just an hour and a half north in the winter, hiking is all over the place, camping, Vegas is just 6 hours away, San Diego is just 6 hours away, Mexico (Rocky Point, etc) is just a few hours away ... I'll shut up now. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to move here. Others I think you would love it - Scottsdale is a bit pricey but I'm sure you know that(I lived in Jersey, too...hate the winters). Take a short vacation and check it out. Best of Luck! If Scottsdale is a little too pricey check out Maricopa just south of the Phoenix Metropolitan area, homes start around 130,000. best of luck Well my family and I made the same move. From the east coast to the west coast and we love it. What we love about scottsdale is everything is so darn close. I mean back east you want to get some food for dinner you have to drive a half an hour to get there. In scottsdale everything you could possibly you want is near you. Movie theaters, Food Markets, Bowling alllys, Resturants anything its here. Altough it can get pretty darn hot in the summer and I mean hot it is still a good choice to come out. My family and I were sick of the cold bad winters and the traffic jams throughout the cities so we came to scottsdale and never looked back. After two years I am glad we came here in the first place. Dont listen to the negatives take the postives. Coming here is defiently the right move I defiently think so. Experience I moved to AZ from the east coast 2 years ago, I'm also 27 and single. I'll give you the pros/cons that I've noticed: Pros: - Tons of things to do in the area - Lots of nice looking girls - The weather from October to April Cons - Really hot summers - High cost of living - Traffic - High crime rate - Getting crowded here because everyone else is moving here Good luck If you can afford to live in Scottsdale I would skip it and keep going till you hit SoCal. For every hot girl you see in Scottsdale you will see about fifteen in Socal. Plus just a ton more to do. Scottsdale gets old pretty quick. More opportunities in SoCal too. Things just seem to happen there. Traffic sucks though. So is you absolutely cannot stand traffic SoCal might not work for you. Go spend a Saturday morning ,jogging on Huntington Beach, you wont even remember Scottsdale |
