How to not look like a tourist in Arizona? |
Travel Info I'm finally moving back to my homestate of Arizona! The state where my heart belongs. I'm also taking my best friend with me. We're moving into an apartment in Phoenix. The fact is, she's from back east and has never been in the valley with me for more than a few days. How can I train her to look like a bit less of a .. tourist? Thanks so much!!!! -Wonko Travel Tips I Practicly grew up here. In Phoenix everybody is diffrent. Like if your going to Chandler, Gilbert,Sccotsdale kind of area. Mostly people are very Prep-like.Then to the west (Laveen,Avondale,Glendale) its pretty casual and normal. Just remember one thing! DO NOT *wear long sleeves *or have a camera or something on you What you should * Wear something short *Get a tan before you leave (lol.. really) things like that and you should be good Others I am from the east coast and moved to Phoenix a couple years ago. One thing that I have learned is that there is a very small percentage of people who are actaullly from here! So, it is pretty hard to look like a tourist when almost everyone you meet is from somewhere else. I would tell her just to be herself and not worry about it, I am sure she will fit in fine! And welcome back! Short of not having the camera around her neck, I doubt most people will think anything of it. I agree with the response above (and actually being a native myself) so many people here are from somewhere else, no one will notice. don't wear a fanny pack! :) No fanny pack, no camera and no overdone tan (you'd be shocked how many tourists do this, looks horrible). Other than that, she should be good. A lot of people here were east coast transplants at some point so there's really not too much one needs to do to blend in. Get a tan! |
