What exactly are summers like in the Phoenix, AZ metro area?

Travel Info
It gets up to 110 - 120 degrees or so, but some people say its a dry heat that does not feel as bas as heat in humid climates. Was hoping to find some sort of clarification.

Travel Tips
Let me say the summers are hot (dry heat) ...anything past 100 degrees all feels the same, plus everywhere you go has air conditioning.
Think of it this way...the winter months you would spend inside your house b/c it cold and snowy are the short 3 months here you spend inside.

Plus -- pools are a nessecity so we always have that option to refresh!

yes dry heat is different..its still very very hot and phoenix is overbearing and gets hotter then a lot of other places in arizona
I lived in Arizona for awhile. And yes it is a dry heat. But don't let that fool you. It still is really hot. You cannot walk on sidewalks without shoes, when you get into your car the steering wheel will burn your hands, and the seatbelt buckle will too. So, while it is hot; there is not the humidity tho, so the air isn't so "heavy" and "sticky" like you would find in other regions of the country.
Hope that helps :)
Yes it's hot - and then you get the monsoon season. You'll need to keep water with you all the time, use lubricating eye drops and nasal spray. I found my voice went raspy like I had a cough because of the dryness lol.

I think the automotive section of AZCentral (www.azcentral) has tips on how to keep your car cool and safe from tire blowouts etc. I read a few years back that some woman had invented a seat cover that could be refrigerated/frozen to help keep you cool in the summer ... something like that anyways.

It's an interesting place and the desert landscape is so stunningly different from NZ
A man from Phoenix died and went to hell. When he got there, he asked for an overcoat.
Hope this answers your question about how hot the weather is.
Well for example today and yesterday 111. Enough said about heat, but yes it is a dry heat. You definitely feel the heat all the time in the summer. But for example your hair does not poof because of the humidity. You also burn really easliy here. . . . if you're not used to the sun. It is really powerful
It's Thanksgiving Day, the turkey has been cooking for hours, you open the oven to baste it...that wall of heat that hits you? That's what it feels like when you open your door to go outside in Phoenix.

I have burned my feet on the sidewalk, and I had a towel under the seat in my car so I could hold the steering wheel to drive because it was too hot. Your average backyard pool gets into the high 90's, so it's not that refreshing. You get used to the heat.
