Drive from Phoenix to Sedona? |
Travel Info We'll be in Arizona for 4 days in March and are trying to pick the best location to visit. We're thinking Sedona but we're not big adventurers so will there be enough to there to entertain us for 4 days? Also what are the roads like from Phoenix to Sedona. I have no driving experience in the mountains and am a bit freaked out by the idea. So what is the safest route to go and what are it's driving conditions? Guardrail? 2 lanes? 4 lanes? Thanks! Travel Tips The drive is easy - when you go through the winding roads, it's only two-lane, but you don't feel like you're going to fall off or anything. Sedona is nice - I stayed there for 5 days recently. Drive through Oak Creek Canyon, see the chapel built into the rocks, take the "Broken Arrow" Pink Jeep tour, lots to do. We took a ride to Jerome to see the old mining town (eh), we drove up to Flagstaff (skip it) and to the meteor crater (not worth the drive either). Eat at Joey Bistro, Dahl and DeLuca and the Enchantment Lodge. March is great weather in Phoenix, but it will be cool in Sedona. Have fun! Others Driving from Phoenix to Sedona is no big deal. Just drive during the day. I have driven some really rough terrains and there is nothing to be nervous about driving hwy 17 its just a normal hwy. Sedona is beatiful. We loved it so much we are planning to get married there. Have fun it truly is magical. I THINK IT IS HWY 17 STRAIGHT NORTH OUT OF PHOENIX GOING TOWARDS FLAGSTAFF- YOU WILL SEE A HIGHWAY SIGN THAT WILL GUIDE YOU TO SEDONA. IT IS A GREAT DRIVE, NOT TO MISS!! Phoenix to Sedona is an interstate trip, I-17 for the larger part. It will be hot, real hot, hot as a MF, Did I mention it will be hot? Not really mountain conditions per say. Just high desert with minor hills and canyons. Flagstaff is a nice place to visit as well just north of Sedona but the best lodging value exist in Phoenix during the summer, rooms are down right cheap! Oh, yes I should mention it will be hot! |
