My mom and I are going to Scottsdale, AZ for vacation in a few weeks. What should we expect? |
Travel Info We are taking a much-needed vacation. We are from Chicago so we aren't completely used to 100+ degree weather. We ARE used to humidity though, although I hear the heat is "dry" out there. We are staying at The Phoenician in Scottsdale and are just looking forward to sitting by the pool and relaxing. Will we be able to do that with the extreme heat? Any insight would be great. Travel Tips Drink a lot of fluids and often.Find yourself a nice AC room too.Or a good swamp cooler too.I live in albuquerque where to today it's like 93 outside, but if it was 93 in chicago or seattle, then it would be truly brutal with the humidity going on as well. Others Scottsdale is in the suburbs of Phoenix, very nice side of town. Relaxing by the pool is refreshing when it is over 100 degree's even possibly 110+. The dry heat your talking about is HOT... lets see, turn your oven on to preheat 400...... when ready, open the door and feel the heat roll out. That's Mid to Southern Arizona in the middle of summer. Hints; Anytime you go out, use high SPF sunscreen. Your skin will burn in 10 mins. Out by the pool, keep that screen on.... Best time to swim is in the evening so the sun don't cook you. Stay cool and hydrated, is very important you don't dehydrate... for every drop of sweat, is a pint of water you need to consume, if your sweating a lot, drink plenty of water. Dehydration will cause upset tummy and dizziness, possibly hospitalization. To stay cool - stay inside!! Enjoy your trip in Scottsdale, and take the time out to see the town of SADONA, ARIZONA it's beautiful in the Red Rock Canyons. Liveing in Tucson 30+ years. Phoenix is warmer than here, by 5 degrees. Yes you will but.... its going to be well over 100 degree's. I recommend you find some personal hand held mister things, and use them while you lounge by the pool. The hottest part of the days here are 10am to about 5pm, so be prepared! Use a good sunblock as well or you'll burn up. I'm from Arizona and live in Chicago...the heat is a different feel. Without the humidity, it doesn't cause you to sweat and be unable to evaporate the heat. It's just hot, but when you get out of water, it feels very cool. But that doesn't mean it isn't still very hot. Keep lots of water on hand, and have plenty of sunscreen. If you have sunscreen and water with you, the Phoenician is terrific, and you'll have a great time. By the way, Phoenix isn't like Chicago. It doesn't have much of a downtown. (Scottsdale does, but it's very small in comparison to Chicago.) But the *state* of Arizona is much more interesting than Illinois. If you can, take a road trip to Sedona or Flagstaff or the Grand Canyon. You'll be amazed. Expect a great time by the pool with beautiful ladies all around you. Just don't go walking a lot outside. Expect 120 degree weather. |
