Wickenburg, AZ.? |
Travel Info I'm doing research and want a little info. It's in the mountains? And which mountains? It's a mining town? Elevation? How many acres generally? If roads were inaccesible, and you HAD to get there. how would you get there? Ok, that's all. Thanks :) Travel Tips I was raised in Wickenburg. It is about 1000 ft higher in elevation than Phoenix (2100 ft.). Typically about 5 -10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. I wouldn't say that it is in the mountains. The terrain is a little more hilly than most, but I would not consider those hills mountains. The mountains are about 15 - 20 miles to the north, which is where Yarnell and Prescott are. Back in the day, Wickenburg was a mining town (way back in the day). In fact its founder, Henry Wickenburg, discovered gold out at Vulture Mine. It is no longer a mining community. Vulture Mine has been closed for quite a while now. I would say that it currently gets a lot of money from tourism and rehab centers. There are also quite a few wealthy people out there. There was a rumor that Wickenburg had the most millionaires per capita than any other town/city in Arizona. Wickenburg is definitely accessible. If you are coming from Phoenix you could go Northwest on Highway 60 (Grand Avenue) to get there. With all the growth out in Surprise, Wickenburg is only about 25 - 30 minutes from the metro area. If you are near the Buckeye area, there is another way to get to Wickenburg from I-10. You would go north on N 355th Ave., which becomes N. Wickenburg Rd. You get to a point where the road splits and you would need to take a right on S. Vulture Mine Rd. which would take you into Wickenburg. From Wickenburg, if you follow Highway 60 west, you will end up out in Quartzite and on into California. If you take Highway 89 north you would end up in Prescott and you could follow it up to Sendona (which is an absolutely beautiful drive). You could also take Highway 93 northwest out of Wickenburg which would take you up to I-40 and drop you out near Kingman...which of course is the route to Nevada. I hope this helped. It is on the way to Las Vegas so if you Know how to get to Vegas from Scottsdale you drive through Wikenburg http://www.ci.wickenburg.az.us/... http://www.wickenburgchamber.com/... |
