Tourist Attractions in Arizona? |
Travel Info I recently had a friend of mine come in to town. They would like to go see the sites and do fun things. Only problem is that to me, everything is just normal old arizona. Anyone have any ideas where i could take a tourist here in arizona. Please be specific. I want to keep it fun yet interesting at teh same time. And we all know hiking right now in the dead of summer would be a nightmare unless its northern arizona....but anyways...Help please. Travel Tips I recommend BioSphere II. It is a beautiful drive, but not too far from Phoenix. The tour is great and not too expensive, plus you can pick up discount coupons at the downtown tourist information center ( I think it's on 2nd St. and Adams, it's just south of Majerle's - which is a cool place for sports fans). Anyway, do the tours of the capitol, the arena, the ball park, there is a free rock and mineral museum downtown too, the Wells Fargo museum is pretty cool ( small and also free downtown). LOL, I got off track, here's the link to the official BioSpere II website. http://www.b2science.org/ Others Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa. We take our relatives from Germany there and they love it. Drive to Flagstaff for dinner. Leave really early in the morning and hit Sedona, Jerome, and Montezuma's Castle on the way there. Make it a full day trip. Spend a few hours at each place. Or drive down to Tucson and see Tombstone- the old west town. Rawhide-another old west town is in the Southeast valley- they have a world famous steakhouse. Go to a water park, stroll downtown Tempe-Mill avenue, eat at Monti's. Hit Arizona Mills and shop- see Gameworks, IMAX and eat at the Rainforest Cafe. Check out the Art Museum and the Science Center- downtown phoenix. Attend a sporting event- baseball, basketball, hockey. Go to the Grand Canyon. Or go to Vegas or San Diego-both are about a 5 hour drive! I would recommend the Phoenix Zoo, The Desert Botanical garden (both would need to be visited in the morning). Also there are some pretty cool museums - the Phoenix Art Museum, the Heard museum, and the Scottsdale Museum of contemporary art are all cool. Maybe one evening visit Tempe and hike A mountain and walk along Mill Ave and the Tempe town lake park Everyone added excellent ideas. Here are a few of mine: Travel the Apache Trail & Tortilla Flat. Continue the ride through the lakes and return through Globe. Maybe you can get last minute stand by tickets for Kartcnher Caverns in Benson. At U of A in Tucson there are a few observatories for night star gazing. Lots of bars, clubs, restaurants, nightlife along Mill Avenue, or Downtown Scottsdale. But one of my all time favorite day trips is up at the Tonto Natural Land Bridge north of Payson. Biosphere II is an excellent idea! If you have any sports fans, you could take them to the ballpark and go around in that area (a lot of sports related stuff there.) If you have any shoppers, I'd take them to the Superstition Springs Mall, or the Scottsdale Mall. Scottsdale is pretty expensive though, and any local Arizonians know what I'm talking about ;) but, all in all, driving them up to Pine, or Globe, or maybe Showlow, would be excellent!! My parents own a cabin in Pine, and the temperature is perfect up there right now. Also, it's very interesting to drive by all the old stores, and things. What I would do, is do all the local sights first (ballpark, malls) and then take an 1 hour and a half drive to Showlow or Pine. The drive is long, but it's definetely worth it! Almost living here for 12 years, it helps you know the sights ;) |
