Taking a train from warsaw to konin? |
Travel Info this will be my first visit back since 1993. i'm planning on travelling to konin by train from warsaw. can anyone give me any tips or information on train travel? for instance, how early should i arrive at the train station before departure? should i go to warszawa centralna or zachodnia? is it better to buy the tickets there or online? and will there be sufficient room for our luggage? any answers relevant to my question (in polish and english) will be greatly appreciated. thanks! Travel Tips Let me try to answer your questions. First, you should travel on an express or EuroCity train - the standard is much better, and by booking, you have a seat assured. No express or EuroCity trains stop at Zachodnia, only TLK (a fast train with booked seats, but of lower standard). If you have a ticket booked in advance, you could arrive at the station ten minutes prior to departure time - the train won't be earlier, anyway, since Centralna is a transit station, not a terminal. As for room for luggage - that may be a problem, you will have to do with shelves above the seats. But a clever arrangement works miracles. Others I lived in Poland from 2002-2004 and used the train alot, but not to Konin. First, I would say that coach travel on trains in Poland likely hasn't changed since you last visited in 1993. Anyway, the trains are ontime like clockwork, so you don't need to show up too early. I'd recommend getting in the first class section as there are only 6 seats per compartment there versus 8 in the second class section. Trains are often not fully booked, particularly in the morning, so you may have a whole compartment to yourself during that time. The compartments have overhead areas for luggage... I recall them being the length of the compartment and sticking out about 15inches or so from the wall. The timetable for travel to Konin from Warsaw can be found at the website.... about a 2 hour ride or so, it appears.... http://www.polrail.com/sections/travel/t... All I can add to the above is: 1) trains are more likely to be late than early, but usually run on time, so get to the station 15-20 minutes in advance; 2) timetables can be found here http://www.pkp.pl/ ; 3) there should be no problem with buying tickets at the station, but it's better to do it in advance (waiting in queues can be terrible) I am Polish |
