Do I have to keep my face washes, toners, laundry detergent, etc. in the original containers for customs when I go to Poland? Or can I put them in a smaller container?

You can put your cosmetics in smaller containers. Purchase a small size Laundry Detergent and keep it in its original container,
You can transfer them to a smaller container. Make sure you store them in a zip lock plastic bag as they might expand during the flight and you don't want them to leak on your luggage! The only things that need to be in the original container are prescription drugs.
It's most likely the customs won't even take a look on your cosmetics. So pack them however oyu feel comfortable. Although the idea of getting them in plastic ziplock bag makes a lot of sense.
They won't bother you if you have it in a container, however Poland is far from a third world country, and you should have no problem finding these things there. Heck, I think Target is in Poland.
