Has anybody been to Lodz, Poland? |
Travel Info Has anybody been to Lodz, Poland? Travel Tips Yes. Piotrkowska Street is fantastic, with wonderful restaurants. But if you go just 20-30 metres into the side streets at night - it can be unpleasant. It is second largest city in Poland, has got the second oldest symphony orchestra in Poland. There are wonderful old palaces of 19th C indutrialists. Some excellent festivals, like the Festival of 4 Cultures. The city of Athur Rubinstein and Roman Polanski. Some good redeveloping work has been recently been going on - nice shopping centres in old factories - a bit like London Docklands. The place does not immediately jumps at you, but there are quite a few charming things to discover. Very good gallery of modern art. Others Hi, second largest city in Poland, great place to go shopping and drinking. A lot of festivals, nearest Camerimage. Have fun! http://www.polishculture.co.uk/index.php... Yes, ages ago. It is a lovely city :-) No, I think you can claim it as your own! Enjoy ruling it! I've never been there, but I have a friend who lives there. He is a Captain in the police service and we worked together in a UN mission in Bosnia. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met, so if he is any indication of the kind of people who live there, then it must be a really nice place to live It is a city noted for textile mills. I visited there about 15 years ago. It was rather dirty, though I daresay it might since have been cleaned up. It has a famous collection of Polish Modern Art, a noteable Modernist House and a notable film school (from which Wajda, Kieslowski etc graduated). There is a gigantic cemetary. I would not make a great deal of effort to return. |
