I want to go to Germany, maybe Poland for my first trip to Europe. Any suggestions?

Travel Info
There will be two of us and we only speak English. We are looking to get a feel of some of the history of WWII.

Travel Tips
I would say Poland. There are many camps left from WWII and just the history of that country is amazing. If you ever watched the movie "The Pianist" ? I would say that it makes people cry and just for some reason after watching I want to go visit Poland even more.

Well, with the neo nazi's trying to revive. You can go there and deal with racism. You'll get a good fell of WWII with them running around.
Most Germans speak English and love to practice when you go over there. Europe is full of history World War II and otherwise as is everywhere else so I would suggest researching the history before you go and plan your trip accordingly
fly into Munich(Germany) go straight to the hoffbrough house enjoy a cold one well maybe room temp. take a couple days to backpack the area take the train to Vienna (Austria) lots of good sites your choice from here Italy or Czech but try to see both Prague is one of the coolest places i have ever been don't believe that hostel movie you'll have a blast then go to Poland gorgeous area also. Head to France if you have time but no loss if you miss it. Have a blast!!! make sure to hit every small town you can they offer a bit more than the big ones when it comes to adventure...
germany is a good place to start, but you need to go to byulgaria on your second trip
I'd say it would be good to visit both Poland and Germany. and in Poland if you want to get a feel of the WWII I'd recommend Wolfschanze (Polish: Wilczy Szaniec - Hitler's headquarters for a bit - there was an attempt on his life there ), Warsaw (there is museum of Warsaw upraising there apart from other things), Auschwitz-Birkenau (Polish: O艣wi臋cim-Brzezinka - German concentration camp as you no doubt know), Westerplatte (that's Gda艅sk if you search on map - attack there started the war). And many others depending on where you'll go. Apart from that in most of cities and in some woods you can find places where people were executed for one reason or another. In some of them you can find only a small memorial in others there is a bit more.

I wouldn't worry about language problems much. Most people understand basic English here, most are capable of giving you the information you need. As far as I know most places that offer a guide have English-speaking guides as well. It wouldn't hurt to learn some basic words like "thank you" or "good morning" though - not because of problems but people are bound to make more effort if they see some on your side.
English will work well in Germany, but not as well in Poland. Ask for a guide at the front desk of your hotel while in Poland.

Everywhere in Germany and many places in Poland you'll be able to spend euro. You won't be able to spend your zloty outside Poland, so don't get more than you need.

The trains in Poland are better than you'd expect. The trains in Germany, of course, are world-class. Take trains between cities when you can. The roads in Poland are not up to English/US standards. Use paid parking in Poland if you have a late-model car.
