Has anyone been to Krakow in Poland? Which clubs etc. are anygood?

Travel Info
12 of us are going in March 2007 and would like to know where to go when we get there. We're staying in the old part of town i think. Any bars, pubs, clubs, strip joints etc. that are any good?

Thanks in advance

Travel Tips
I have been to Krakow several times. You should head for the Rynek (pronouced Ri-nek - Main Square). The main square is largest in market square in Europe.

Around the outside of the Rynek are plenty of pubs and bars, some of the ones closest to the Rynek are of the quieter type but a few minutes away are the more lively bars. There are some English/Irish bars close by to the Rynek also.

If you want something a little more lively, head from the Rynek toward the Old town and try Afera Pub at ul. Slawkowska 13 (Old Town)

On the adjancent street, ul. Jana 18, there is an Irish pub called Pod Papugami.

There are many other English/Irish pubs and the link below in the sources will show you where they are.

A beer costs about 5/6 zloty which is about 1.00 GBP. A meal in a restaurant will be somewhere between 10 - 30 zloty. Which is around 2.00 - 5.00 GBP.

My recommendations for beer are Zywiec (pronounced Ziv-e-etch) or if you want something stronger then ask for Okocim (pronouced O-Koch-im)

Poles also like to drink Vodka. You should try the Polish favourite called Bison Vodka - called Zubrowka, pronounced Zoo-bruv-ka). It tastes great with Apple Juice. Each bottle of Bison vodka contains a long piece of grass.

For eating, I'd recommend Rooster. It serves American fare but the waitresses are a delight to behold. You will see what I mean if you visit or check out the link at the bottom of this message.

If you want something a bit more traditional, Polish food, then go to Zapiecek Polish Pierogi at ul. Slawkowska 32 (Old Town) or one of many Pierogi shops that serve Polish food. Try the Pierogi Ruskie!

As for adult entertainment - there was a club called Proton in Krakow but I don't know if it is still open. You should be able to find something to meet your taste.

Polish people are on the whole very friendly towards English people, both share an enjoyment of social drinking.

Be wary of being approached by seemingly friendly people who tell you go to a certain club or location later on for adult entertainment - you may get more than you bargained for. Violent crime is very rare in Krakow but you should try to keep your wits about you.

You can get the addresses of pubs and so on here:

I've once been to Krakow (I'm Polish)-the best pubs and clubs are located in the old historic town, in the city centre. Buy yourself a map if you don't want to waste time for asking the way. If you have time try to keep off the main tourist tracks -SOMETIMES you may find cool and much cheaper places than those offered to foreign tourists
Have fun, and keep watching on your wallet [there are many pickpockets, it's not a joke...]
