Why do Polish people have to have something about Auschwitz all the time on the news or just talk about it?

Travel Tips
It's a horrid part of Polish history. The atrocities of WWII are hard to forget, and Auschwitz seem to be the symbol of that time. It's not merely a place, but a symbol of the brutality and mercilessness with which people were exterminated based on very arbitrary selection.
And this was an "equal opportunity" killing machine - not just Jews - Poles, Russians, Gypsies, anyone who got sucked into the Nazi insanity. It seems that the stench of charred bodies still hangs in the air over there - I would know, I went there twice.
The first time was with my grade school on the field trip. Gave me nightmares for years.
Second time I visited, I was with my own family, and the effect didn't lose any intensity at all. The sole purpose of this place was to murder as many people as possible.
So tell me, can you just forgive and forget and conveniently not speak about it, or do you hold it as a reminder of how crazy human beings can get and make sure, that it is not forgotten and stands as a cautionary tale?

Because today is Holocaust Remeberance day
becouse we are always looking back, living with memories and history - standing with our back to the future, regreting things, complaining...

Holocaust isn't a piece of cake but we have to face it since our childchood, in schools and TV etc...
those were Nazi camps, but most of those Jews were Polish citizens, our people...
we need to digest it...
XX cent. hasn't finished yet....
If you learned more about Auschwitz, you might know better why it's such a big deal.
Over one million people were killed there.
Think of how big a deal (ie, years of war and invasion) the US makes of 9/11 - and the numbers don't even compare.

i ve been there...it is very sad. I am polish. many ppl dies and poland never will forget. Anyway they talk about other stuff too...
What are you talking about, i never heard that on the news. If there was then it might have something to do with the fact that Auscwitz is in Poland and hundreds of thousands of Poles died there.
