Where the best place to to live in oregon?

Travel Tips
If you are a country person, you will be happy just about anywhere in Oregon except for Portland and Eugene. Here are some suggestions:

1. Medford/Ashland area - good economy in Medford, good cultural amenities in Ashland, nice weather, overall country attitudes (California transplants notwithstanding), growing area.

2. Redmond or LaPine - both in Central Oregon, high desert country. Redmond is about 20 minutes north of Bend/Sisters, LaPine about 30 miles south. There is tons of stuff to do in Bend & Sisters, but Redmond & LaPine are far enough away that they are still pure "country" (for now, maybe not in 20 years). Again, local economies are doing well, especially if you are in anything construction related. I can't recommend Bend & Sisters themselves only because they are both very expensive whereas Redmond and LaPine are still affordable.

3. Pendleton - closer to northeastern Oregon. Beautiful area, pure country, home of the Pendleton Round Up, not too far from the Tri-Cities area (along Washington/Oregon border).

There a lots of fine communities along the Oregon Coast but since you wanted "country living" I'm not sure you'd be as happy there... more touristy there, more yuppies with vacation homes, etc. Bandon is my favorite spot along the southern Oregon coast but it's definitely not "country".

Good luck!

I have always heard that Ashland is terrific, very artsy and spiritual in the sense of goodwill to all. I talked with a Dr. recently that lives in Newport, Oregon, on the coast mid way up. Only 20,000 people in the town. She said the town was very sweet. Good people. Other beach towns around it as well. Depends on are you a country person or a water person?
well i don't live in southern oregon i live in central oregon and to me the best place well i have two actually :) florence oregon on the coast it's not to hot and not to cold and prineville oregon it's one of the last few country towns where california hasn't moved in yet :)
If you like cities...Portland.

Otherwise...you'd like Wallowa County. The Wallowa Mountains have been compared to the Swiss Alps. The lagest wilderness area in the state is located there. The entire population of Wallowa County is about 7,000, and surrounded by mountains. The summers are cool, and it snows in the winter. There is only one traffice light in the entire county...a blinking yellow light the only blinks during school hours. Plus...there is an absolutely gorgeous mountain lake there.
I've worked there the last seven summers. check out: www.wallowacountychamber.com
