What is the Vortex like?

Travel Tips
I can't really help you on the Vortex front, but Oregon has an endless selection of cool places to visit. I normally live in Colorado but I've been out here for 7 weeks and I've seen some truly spectacular sights. It all depends on how much time you have to spend and what you enjoy doing.

There are the obvious answers, like the coast and the Gorge. If you go to the Gorge and you like waterfalls and hiking, there is a terrific hike starting at the eastern end of the historic highway beginning at Horsetail Falls and going up past Ponytail Falls, another waterfall, and finally Triple Falls. It was a perfect day hike and a great way to see the Gorge, some awesome waterfalls, and some old growth forest.

Crater Lake is spectacular if you can make it out there. At first when I saw photos I was like "OK, sure, cool, a lake." After seeing it and hearing about its history though, it's now one of my favorite national parks. The lake is the deepest in North America and among the most pristine. The water is the most unbelievable shade of blue and the whole thing sits in the caldera of a volcano whose eruption dwarfed Mt St Helens.

If you have some time to just hang out and relax, camping at Waldo Lake is great. Like Crater Lake, its water is extremely pure, so its clarity is remarkable and the setting is unmatched. Kayaking around Waldo Lake is an experience not to be missed for its sheer simplicity and enjoyment.

If you are heading up to Washington, be sure to check out Mt St Helens. It's a real-life piece of history and it's still active, making it a terrific day trip.

Portland is a great city too, check out the International Rose Test Gardens if you go there.. the gardens offer a great view of the city and Mt Hood and are gorgeous in their own right. Obviously Portland also offers the array of urban experiences to be found in Oregon.

If you're on the coast, find a good viewpoint on a cape and just sit for awhile. This time of year, you've got a good chance of glimpsing some whales, as if the scenery wasn't enough.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/crater_lake...

The Northwest coast is beautiful. Very scenic. My personal don't miss site is Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon. A massive prehistoric volcano collapsed and created one of the most gorgeous lakes on Earth. Try to stay at the Crater Lake Lodge if you can. Portland is very nice. The zoo there is world-class!
